Often, as I stand at the sink handwashing dishes that I prefer to keep out of the dishwasher, my mind is free to ponder the things on my heart. Today was no exception.
My late husband and I homeschooled our children for 17 years, all the way to college. Since I had our first daughter before we were married, I never lived a life alone. I went to my married life straight from my mother’s house with a child, and continued living with others to this day. While my husband is gone, my youngest daughter who returned home from college still lives in our home. I’ve never had an empty nest, except for the 6 college semesters my daughter lived on campus after she graduated from high school.
I lost my husband in July of 2022. I have come to the place of acceptance of this new season of my life. I feel calm and relaxed. I can focus on whatever my hand finds to do for the day, and if the Lord calls me to a task like fixing food for an elderly neighbor, I can do it in solitude and joy. Of course, it would be nice to have help with keeping the lawn mowed, doing maintenance projects, and having someone with whom to share my thoughts, ideas and meals on a regular basis, but overall, there is a contentment in living alone that you only understand fully when you have done it.
I feel the Holy Spirit encouraging me to live a life of victorious widowhood, and in this personal blog, I plan to share that journey. Join me as I share my thoughts on this new adventure with the Holy Spirit.
